AUB’s Varsity football team came away with all three points in their league season-opener against Antonine University on Thursday, October 19, defeating their opponents 1-0 – courtesy of a goal from Ghassan Ibrahim.

In a game where Coach Rabih Idriss fielded a fairly experienced side, AUB thoroughly outplayed Antonine and should’ve scored many more than their solitary goal. They saw two long-range efforts hit the crossbar and missed a number of golden opportunities to extend their lead.

Antonine rallied late on but never really threatened to find an equalizer, and their cause was not aided by the two red cards they were shown in the second half.

With a solid base of players carrying on from last season and a host of talented new faces, we can only expect AUB to improve as the season progresses. After failing to win the league in each of the last two seasons, the boys are in good stead to rectify the situation this time around and bring the title home.
